"THE VOID" refers to a designated area located at coordinates 51.████ N 18.████ E (Poland). It covers approximately 5.6 hectares, of which around 80% is composed of regular spruce forest. The area of THE VOID is currently uninhabited.
THE VOID is host to a notable anomalous event, which occurs once every day. During this event, THE VOID begins to alter the perceptive abilites of every subject inside, and within close proximity of its area. Most notably, all sensory information coming from outside of THE VOID will appear to have no effect on the area inside of it.
Effects
Light (both natural and artificial) coming from the outside will not affect the area within THE VOID. Likewise, any sound produced outside of THE VOID will not be audible to subjects currently present within. Some subjects have reported briefly not being able to feel parts of their bodies when crossing the boundaries of THE VOID. The point between THE VOID and the outside world is commonly referred to as the "event horizon"
Manifestation
THE VOID manifests and demanifests precisely at 1800 and 0600 respectively. The reasons behind this behavior are unknown. Additionally, THE VOID's time of manifestation is altered by light. As long as a certain minimal intensity of light is shining on THE VOID, its effects will fail to manifest. Light of such intensity can be provided via the natural light emitted by the Sun during the day, or alternatively via a strong enough artificial light source. The amount of luminous flux required to prevent THE VOID's manifestation has been approximated to be around 50 lumens.
By extension, this means that THE VOID's manifestation can be artificially delayed or outright prevented using artificial light sources. Several experiments have been able to artificially prevent THE VOID from forming for more than 3 hours without any issues. There is at least one known instance of an individual preventing an entire void cycle from forming by maintaining an artificial light source within THE VOID.
Other phenomena
Due to its properties, THE VOID has often been described by local Wanderers as a natural sensory deprivation chamber. Prolonged exposure to THE VOID's effects may cause psychosis-like symptoms. Some Wanderers report having heard abnormal, unnerving sounds coming from within THE VOID. At least two Wanderers reported having seen "dim, almost unregisterable lights coming from the woods", presumed to be other Wanderers that happened to be investigating the area at the time.
As far as we know, THE VOID's effects are entirely psychological. Readouts reported by instruments placed within THE VOID are unaffected. THE VOID has so far not caused any deaths.
Genesis and current state
The first concrete reports of THE VOID come from 1989, with two Senior Wanderers reporting THE VOID as having been formed approximately around April of 1986. The cause and reasons for THE VOID's existence remain unknown. THE VOID's total area has not increased nor decreased during its existence. It is currently unknown whether THE VOID will cease to exist within the foreseeable future, but due to its relatively harmless nature, it is not a matter of importance.
